Great things are happening for cardiac patients at St. John River District
Hospital in St. Clair County. Our hospital is the best at delivering the
recommended care to cardiac patients among area hospitals, according to an
article in The Times Herald newspaper in Port Huron.
Additionally, the article pointed out that our hospital ranks among the country’s top performers for providing the right care to cardiac patients.
The data mentioned in the article looked at how often hospitals gave the standard recommended treatments to cardiac patients such as aspirin and beta blockers. Of the three area hospitals listed, St. John River District Hospital scored the highest with 99% of its myocardial infarction and 97% of its congestive heart patients receiving the recommended care.
At St. John River District Hospital, patients are likely to receive the
recommended care despite national data suggesting that residents in lower-income
counties and smaller hospitals are more likely to receive substandard care. The
article stated that hospitals serving poor populations have very limited
resources and simply cannot provide the high quality care delivered in
mainstream and larger hospitals.
To receive such high marks is truly an accomplishment for St. John River District Hospital since top performing hospitals are scarce in low income counties. In counties ranking in the lowest 20% for median household income, only 5% of the hospitals were in the top five performance rankings for cardiac patients.
Kudos to all the employees at River District Hospital and their collaborative
efforts in making our hospital a top notch place to receive cardiac care!
