Health care services in southern Macomb and southeastern Oakland counties will
get even better when St. John Health unites the strengths of St. John Macomb
and St. John Oakland Hospitals into a joint operation. When both hospitals
combine their resources, they will be able to improve on the already
excellent patient care provided.
The initial phase of the collaboration will involve an operational and administrative merger and allow St. John Health the most flexibility to gain efficiency, maximize services and enhance both facilities in order to better serve the community. Together, both hospitals will be even stronger.
For the emergency departments, we will see expanded patient care and further improve efficiency and throughput. St. John Oakland hospital has had a steady increase in Emergency Department visits during 2006. Every month the department has been ahead of budget and it ended the calendar year with approximately 32,000 visits.
Throughout this growth, the department has maintained excellent patient satisfaction scores and throughput efficiency. The staff looks forward to continued growth in 2007, thanks to the operational merger with St. John Macomb.
And in another example of a successful partnership, St. John Oakland and St.
John Hospital and Medical Center Emergency Medicine residency programs are
continuing to work together. The programs are combining lectures and
collaborating on research. Residents from both programs are gaining clinical
experience rotating at both training sites. Overall, the residents have found
this experience to be very valuable and rewarding to their training program.
